Austin police arrested a man on Monday at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for attempting to pass through airport security with a bag of weed hidden in his sock, according to an arrest affidavit filed on Wednesday.
The document said a Transportation Security Agency officer spotted a bulge above the man’s shoe as he passed through a body scanner at the airport’s South Terminal and alerted authorities.
Officers arrived and identified the man as 44-year-old John Alvey, according to the report.
The affidavit said a Travis County Sheriff’s deputy also found a small clear bag full of white powder in Alvey’s wallet while he was being booked into the Travis County Jail, which later confirmed to be methamphetamine.
Alvey was booked into the Travis County Jail on Tuesday morning and charged with possessing a controlled substance, jail records show.
